Bunnahabhain 20 Year Old 2005 Armagnac Cask Finish is an extremely limited Islay single malt whisky that combines the non-peated coastal character of the Bunnahabhain distillery with the rich fruity and spicy influence of French Armagnac.
The whisky was distilled in 2005. It matured for the first 14 years in refill casks and then spent another six years in high-quality Armagnac casks. This is not just a short finish, but a long second maturation phase during which the French oak had ample time to significantly influence the whisky's aroma, flavor, and texture.
The nose opens with dried plums, orange marmalade, leather, and an exotic hint of sandalwood. The palate is complex, full, and elegantly fruity. Candied orange and dark grapes complement roasted hazelnuts, subtle spices, and a delicate coastal character typical of Bunnahabhain.
The finish is long, spicy, and slightly drier, with lingering notes of tobacco, wood, and dark fruit. The whisky was bottled in 2026 with an alcohol content of 49.9%, non-chill filtered, and no added coloring.
Only 570 individually numbered bottles were produced from the entire edition. Due to the exceptionally long maturation in Armagnac casks, the low number of bottles, and the original bottling from the distillery, this is an attractive whisky for connoisseurs and collectors of exceptional Bunnahabhain editions.
