Mezcal is a distillate made from various types of agave. Mezcal is said to be an aphrodisiac and a cure for all diseases. This solid brandy is a precursor to tequila, from which it differs from production from other types of agave. Mezcal comes from the Mexican regions of Oaxaca and Sonora. In the production process, the plants are smoked before the distillation of the smoke, and in some, the gusano de maguey worm is even added, which gives the drink a slightly salty flavor. In another production process, distillation takes place through raw turkey breasts. Unlike tequila, mezcal is not as famous and is considered more like homemade brandy. Three types of mezcal are known. The first is Aňejo, translated as "laid out", who matures for at least a year in wooden barrels. Mezcal Reposado, or even "mature", matures in a wooden barrel from two months to one year. The last is Joven Blanco, which also means young, white. It is a colorless mezcal that matures for less than two months or is bottled immediately after distillation.
