Hendrick's

Hendrick's Gin originates from the small seaside village of Girvan, located in the county of Ayrshire in the south west of Scotland. The distillery lies just one mile inland and overlooks the mysterious volcanic island of Ailsa Craig. This enticing outcrop is uninhabited, save for a few migratory birds, but features in many local legends.

Hendrick's Gin is distilled not in one, but in two completely different types of still. The two leading devices of this particular set of stills are the Bennett, an antique copper pot still from 1860, and the Carter-Head from 1948 (of which only a few pieces exist today).
The Bennett soaks the botanicals in alcohol overnight before distillation, resulting in a rich, complex liquid. While the Carter-Head gently steams the botanicals in a basket on its high neck, so that a botanical steam-bath-like effect is imparted to the spirit. The result is a lighter and smoother spirit. The harmonious combination of the stills creates an extraordinarily smooth gin that is second to none and which has the necessary character and balance of subtle flavours.
