Fruit Wines have been gaining popularity in recent years. They are made by fermenting juice from various types of fruit and offer a diverse range of flavors – from fresh and tart notes to sweeter, fuller, and more aromatic varieties. Compared to grape wine, they generally have a slightly lower alcohol content, averaging around 11%.

Types of Fruit Wines

The most well-known in Slovakia are primarily:

Blackcurrant Wine – fresh, tart, and distinctly aromatic.
Blueberry Wine – fuller, with a fruity taste and subtle sweetness.

However, cherries, sour cherries, gooseberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, aronia, rose hips, or even flowers of elderberry or dandelion are also used in production. This gives each type of fruit wine its unique character.

When to Reach for Fruit Wine

Fruit wines are a great way to spice up regular drinking and make an interesting gift. They excel as an aperitif, with light desserts, or during gatherings with friends. In the summer months, they are served well chilled, which further enhances their freshness and fruity flavor.
