Matusalem – legendary rum with Cuban roots

The story of Matusalem began in 1872 in Santiago de Cuba, where the Camp brothers founded a distillery with the ambition to create a rum as smooth as the finest brandy. The brand’s name was inspired by the biblical figure Methuselah – a symbol of longevity, tradition, and wisdom.

The traditional Solera method

Matusalem rums are crafted using the special Solera method, originally developed for sherry and brandy. In this process, younger rums are gradually blended with older ones, creating exceptional depth, smoothness, and balance. They mature in 200-liter ex-bourbon casks made from white oak, which are charred before filling – enhancing notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, and a touch of smoke.

Mastery and global recognition

Since its rebirth in the Dominican Republic, Matusalem has become a symbol of the Cuban style of rum. The brand has earned numerous international awards and is highly regarded among rum connoisseurs worldwide. Its most celebrated expressions include Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 – often called “the cognac of rums” – and the elegant Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 Enigma, offering an even richer and more sophisticated profile.
