Matusalem – legendary rum with Cuban roots

The story of the brand Matusalem began in 1872 in the city of Santiago de Cuba, where the Camp brothers established a distillery with the aim of creating rum that would be as smooth as the finest brandy. The brand name was inspired by the biblical figure Methuselah – a symbol of longevity, tradition, and wisdom.

Traditional Solera Method

Matusalem rums are produced using the special Solera method, originally used in the production of sherry and cognacs. In this process, younger rums are gradually blended with older ones, resulting in extraordinary depth, smoothness, and harmony of flavors. They age in 200-liter ex-bourbon barrels made of white oak, which are charred before filling – this develops notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, and subtle smoke.

Since its revival in the Dominican Republic, Matusalem has become a symbol of Cuban-style rum. The brand has received numerous international awards and is favored by connoisseurs around the world. The exceptional reputation was built by the rum Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 – also known as the “cognac among rums” – and its more elegant successor Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 Enigma, which offers an even richer and more sophisticated profile.
