Spumante is the Italian term for a full-bodied sparkling wine with higher carbon dioxide pressure and richer bubbles than in lightly sparkling frizzante. The name comes from the Italian word spumare – meaning "to foam," which perfectly captures its sparkle and freshness.

How Spumante is Made

Spumante is made either by the traditional method (secondary fermentation in the bottle, similar to champagne and cava), or by the charmat method (fermentation in large stainless steel tanks). The result is wines with long-lasting bubbles and a wide range of flavors – from light fruity to more complex and mature styles.

Spumante and Prosecco

We often encounter the term Prosecco Spumante, which is the most well-known type of this wine. While Prosecco Frizzante has a gentler effervescence, Prosecco Spumante offers a full sparkling experience and greater elegance.
