A Tradition of Hospitality from the High Tatras

If you visit Slovakia, especially the High Tatras and traditional mountain lodges, you will often be welcomed with a glass of hot herbal tea with alcohol. This drink was not only a way to warm up, but also an integral part of local hospitality, customs, and mountain life. It was this tradition that inspired the idea of bringing the unique taste of the Tatras into bottles—so that people around the world could enjoy it in the form of a herbal liqueur.

From mountain drink to an iconic brand

The idea became reality in 2003, when the producers decided to transform the traditional Tatra herbal tea into a finished product. After approximately one year of development, Karloff – Tatra Distillery launched Tatratea 52% Original at the beginning of 2004. The drink quickly gained popularity thanks to its distinctive combination of tea, herbs, sweetness, and pronounced alcoholic strength.

TATRATEA today: a tradition that continues to grow

The success of the original recipe led to a gradual expansion of the portfolio with additional herbal liqueur variants and flavour expressions, such as Outlaw Tea, Forest Fruit, folkloric editions, and other special releases. While maintaining a strong connection to the Tatra region, TATRATEA has also become a modern Slovak spirit with an iconic identity defined by its colourful bottles. Today, TATRATEA is not only a popular digestif, but also a symbol of Slovakia, tradition, and originality, found in homes, bars, and as a sought-after gift. It has also gained popularity abroad, particularly in Germany and Poland.
