Zacapa – the legend from the Guatemalan highlands

Zacapa is a true legend among Guatemalan rums. Its story began in 1976 to celebrate the centenary of the town of Zacapa, and since then it has become one of the most respected rum brands in the world. It is produced in the Quetzaltenango region, at an altitude of 2300 metres, where the cool mountain air slows the ageing process, giving the rum its remarkable smoothness.

Patience, altitude, and virgin cane honey

The base of Zacapa rums is virgin sugarcane honey rather than molasses, giving them a fuller and softer profile. Yeasts derived from pineapples add subtle fruity notes that evolve with ageing. The rum matures through the traditional Solera system in casks that previously held bourbon, sherry, and Pedro Ximénez wine, creating layered flavours of cocoa, dried fruit, honey, and caramel.

Behind Zacapa’s unique style stands Lorena Vásquez – the brand’s Master Blender for over 35 years. Recognised as one of the most influential women in the spirits world, her signature appears on every bottle as a seal of quality and craftsmanship.

Handcrafted heritage from Guatemala

The brand also supports local communities – more than 700 women hand-weave the decorative petate bands that adorn each bottle, symbolising Zacapa’s authenticity and cultural roots.
