Aging takes place in the so-called "House Above the Clouds" at an altitude of approximately 2,300 m above sea level, where the stable climate allows for slow and harmonious maturation. Ron Zacapa XO ages using the solera system in a combination of American whiskey, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and then undergoes final aging in French oak barrels previously used for cognac.
