Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 is an exceptional 15-year-old single malt whisky from the Isle of Islay, part of the limited edition Westering Home Collection – Series 2. The name An Cuan Garbh in Scottish Gaelic means "rough sea" and refers to the challenging journey home to Islay – a theme that this series explores through the story of the sea, time, and maturation.
This edition builds on the characteristic style of the Bunnahabhain distillery, known for its unpeated Islay whisky with a rich, complex, and oily profile. An Cuan Garbh No.1 has been additionally finished in casks that previously held white port from the Portuguese Douro region, adding a layered fruity character and elegant sweetness.
In both aroma and taste, notes of orchard fruits, peaches, apricots, and candied citrus develop, gradually transitioning into delicate layers of honeyed almonds, toasted malt, and spicy warmth. The result is a bold yet refined whisky that combines the coastal character of Bunnahabhain with an unusually chosen port finish.
Bunnahabhain An Cuan Garbh No.1 is bottled at 51.6% alcohol, is non-chill filtered and without added coloring. Only 6,588 bottles have been released worldwide, making it an intriguing piece for collectors, fans of limited editions, and lovers of unconventional cask finishes.
