This is a 5-year-old Barbadian rum from the Planteray range, aged for 3 years in ex-bourbon casks and then transported to France to Cognac Ferrand, where it matured for 2 years in ex-cognac casks! Truly very good.
Double aging is a characteristic technique of the Planteray brand - during the total 5 years of aging, it imparts remarkable roundness and structure to the distillate.
Authentic Barbadian style from Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery, founded in 1893 by George Stade, a brilliant distiller with many patents to his name.
On the nose, the rum intensely smells of veal leather and caramel. Hints of cinnamon and dried coconut and also a touch of vanilla. Dried banana develops. The taste is surprisingly sweet at first, with molasses and a hint of leather in the foreground alongside orange peel and salted butter, new spices. In the finish, it becomes very sweet. A lot of fiery spices appear on the tail.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 40% with a volume of 0.7 l.
