Planteray Oceana Single Vintage Australia 2016 is a limited edition rum from Beenleigh Distillery, one of the oldest rum distilleries in Australia. It comes from the Eagleby area in Queensland and is part of the Oceana collection, which showcases the character of rums from distant island and oceanic regions.
The rum was distilled in 2016 from molasses using a traditional John Dore pot still. It then spent 8 years aging in bourbon barrels in Australia, where it developed distinct fruity, vanilla, and caramel notes.
After this phase, it was transported to France, where it aged for an additional 2 years in Ferrand barrels. The total age thus reaches 10 years. The double aging combines the more intense influence of the Australian climate with the slower continental maturation in France.
The aroma features vanilla, toffee, peach, apricot, and very ripe banana, complemented by sweet almonds and delicate floral notes. The taste is silky and full, with guava, pineapple, milk chocolate, toasted coconut, and citrus peel.
The finish is longer and drier, with a mineral character, cocoa, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bottled at a striking 52% alcohol, it gives the rum a concentration and intensity suitable primarily for slow tasting.
This is a One-Time Limited Edition, intended for a one-time release, highlighting the origin, vintage, and individual character of Australian rum.
