Planteray Oceana Single Vintage Fiji Islands 2012 is a limited edition vintage rum that showcases a distinctive and unique style of rums from the South Pacific.
Rum was distilled in 2012 from molasses using a pot still in Fiji. It then spent up to 11 years aging in bourbon casks in a tropical climate. The long stay in the warm and humid environment accelerates the interaction of the distillate with the wood, helping to create its concentrated fruity and spicy character.
After tropical aging, the rum was transported to France, where it underwent an additional 3 years of continental aging in Ferrand casks. The total age of the rum thus reaches 14 years. The double aging combines the bold Fijian distillate with the softer influence of French oak.
The aroma is intense and complex. Molasses, plantain, guava, quince, orange, and roasted pineapple intertwine with leather, tobacco, cloves, and a subtle smoky note.
The taste is rich and oily, with pronounced tropical fruit. Pineapple and mango complement citrus, caramel, dark chocolate, ginger, and a fresh eucalyptus note.
The finish is long and layered. Vanilla and passion fruit gradually transition into spices, sweet licorice, and a distinctive mineral note.
Bottled at 45% alcohol, it belongs to a one-time limited Oceana collection, which represents different rum terroirs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
