Gordon & Macphail Speymalt Macallan 2006
The Speymalt from Macallan series is one of the flagship lines of independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail, who, unlike most, has long-standing and reliable access to casks from the Macallan distillery.
This edition was distilled in 2006 and, after long maturation, was bottled as an exceptionally mature and complex single malt, emphasizing the iconic sherry profile for which Macallan is known worldwide.
The whisky matured in carefully selected sherry casks (most commonly first-fill or high-quality refill), which imparted intense fruity, sweet and spicy notes.
On the nose, it reveals richly layered aromas of dried plums, raisins, orange peel, caramel, dark chocolate, honey, soft vanilla and a hint of toasted oak.
The palate is full, velvety and typically sherried – raisins, chocolate fondant, cinnamon, figs, sweet tobacco, butter caramel and subtle dried orange peel. Gradually, notes of charred oak and gentle nutty bitterness appear.
The finish is long, elegant and well-balanced, with tones of dark chocolate, sherry sweetness, dried fruits, nuts and a mild spicy echo.
This expression is aimed at lovers of classic sherry-style Speyside whisky – rich, dense and perfectly representing the combination of Macallan quality and G&M craftsmanship.
