Brand History and Origin

Gordon & MacPhail is an iconic family business from Elgin, Scotland, founded in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. Originally a traditional wine and grocery shop, it soon transformed into a center of whisky expertise. Since 1915, the Urquhart family has taken over, imprinting the brand with its current character – an emphasis on craftsmanship, patience, and a deep understanding of single malt whisky.

Brand Philosophy and Pillars

Gordon & MacPhail has become a pioneer in independent bottling. As one of the first, they began sourcing distillate from various distilleries and allowing it to mature in their own casks, carefully selected according to the style and character of each distillery. Their approach is based on three pillars: selection of the finest casks, long-term maturation (often decades), and preservation of the authentic profile of the distilleries.

This has built their reputation as masters in the art of “shaping the future of whisky by what they do today.”

Flagship Series and Iconic Bottles

The brand has several well-known ranges that represent its distinctive style:
Connoisseurs Choice – a signature range showcasing various distilleries in unique cask profiles.
Discovery and Distiller Labels - core whisky ranges from different distilleries.
Private Collection – limited, carefully selected whiskies from old stocks.
Generations – an ultra-exclusive series featuring the oldest whiskies in the world, including the record-breaking Glenlivet 80-year-old.

Why G&M is Exceptional

Gordon & MacPhail combines the tradition of independent bottling with the courage to experiment with casks and time. Thanks to their extraordinarily long patience and uncompromising quality, their whiskies are among the most sought-after collectible pieces in the world. The brand thus represents the essence of Scottish tradition: expertise, precision, and respect for craftsmanship.
