Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1 15 Year Old
Turas Math is a Scottish Gaelic expression meaning the beginning of a journey – a moment filled with anticipation, adventure, and the promise of returning home. Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1 15 Year Old is the first release in the Westering Home Collection, a three-year series rooted in heritage, community, and the coastal character of the Isle of Islay.
Like a voyage at sea, this whisky begins with careful preparation: the finest Scottish barley, mineral-rich water from the Margadale Spring, and hand-selected casks from Jerez and Italy’s Veneto region. They mature in Bunnahabhain’s coastal warehouses, shaped by sea air, time, and tradition.
At its heart is a spirit distilled in 2008, matured for 15 years in Manzanilla sherry casks from Jerez – casks known for their refined, drier sherry character and emblematic of Bunnahabhain’s signature style.
It was then expertly married with whisky that spent 10 years in refill casks, followed by a further 5 years of maturation in Amarone wine casks. These casks, personally selected by master blender Julieann Fernandez, contribute deep fruit richness, structure, and contrast.
The result is a complex, contrasting, and elegant single malt whisky, uniting sherry dryness, wine-driven richness, and Islay’s unmistakable coastal character. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 55.9 %, without chill filtration or added colouring, it retains a truly authentic expression.
