Talisker 10 Year Old Set + Torabhaig Taigh
Talisker 10 is the flagship of the distillery located on the rugged, wind-swept island of Skye, battered by sea waves. It is the oldest distillery on this island, founded in 1830. It is known for its distinctive style, where the character of the coastal sea and smoky peat come together.
This whisky has matured for at least 10 years in American bourbon casks, which has imparted subtly sweet notes that balance the bold island character.
On the nose, we can intensely feel sea salt, malt, wet wood, black pepper complemented by earthy notes of peat, lemon, and vanilla. The taste of the whisky is intense and spicy, full of notes of peat, honey, citrus peel, sea salt, and dried fruit. The finish is long and warming, with flavors of peat, sea salt, black pepper, and oak.
Bottled at a strength of 45.8% alcohol. It is colored and likely also cold filtered.
Torabhaig Taigh is a single malt Scotch whisky from the independent distillery Torabhaig, located on the Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. The name “Taigh” in Scottish Gaelic means home and represents the first permanent whisky in the distillery's portfolio. It symbolizes the style and character of Torabhaig – a whisky that embodies their typical “house style”.
The whisky follows the success of the limited edition Legacy Series and opens a new chapter in the distillery's production. Torabhaig Taigh is built on a philosophy that the distillery calls “Smoke with Taste” – an elegant, balanced, and subtly peaty whisky, where the smoke is present but harmoniously complements the other flavor layers.
The whisky matures primarily in bourbon casks (First Fill and Refill Bourbon), which impart notes of vanilla, gentle spice, and sweetness, while a small proportion of Madeira wine casks brings a softer roundness and complexity. Torabhaig Taigh is non-chill filtered and uncolored, allowing the natural character of the distillate to shine through.
The label features artwork by local artist Aileen Grant, who captured the atmosphere of the land surrounding the Torabhaig distillery.
On the nose, there are notes of campfire smoke and coastal sea air, complemented by earthy forest tones reminiscent of an autumn walk in the woods. Sweet layers of baked apple pie, maple syrup, and raisins emerge, with hints of clove, cinnamon, and grainy notes.
The palate is light to medium-bodied, with gentle smoke intertwined with notes of vanilla cream, toasted almonds, and sweet dried fruit. The texture is smooth and slightly oily.
The finish is gently spicy and slightly drier, with notes of toasted oak, red fruit, vanilla, and lingering smoke, which gives the whisky a pleasant warmth and balance.
