This limited edition whisky Talisker called The Wild Blue comes from the legendary Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye, founded in 1830. The whisky first matures in bourbon casks, and then is finished for 16 months in casks that held South African red wine from the Atlantic coast, which is a first for the Talisker brand.
Bottled at 48.2% ABV, likely without chill filtration. However, the whisky is colored.
The aroma is dominated by intense smoke mixed with coastal notes such as dried seaweed and sea salt. We can also detect red fruits, like dried cranberries and currants.
On the palate, the whisky is creamy and velvety, with notes of currants, figs, dried fruits, black pepper, and chili intertwining with salty coastal smoke. The best way to enjoy the whisky is neat at room temperature. A few drops of water will help open up its sweeter notes and aromas.
This exceptional whisky is perfect for slow, meditative sipping. It best showcases the connection of the sea, terroir, and craftsmanship it represents. A portion of each sale also goes to the Blue Marine foundation for the restoration of coastal habitats.
