Scapa Skiren is produced at the Scapa distillery on the Mainland, Orkney (northern Scotland). Distillation takes place in the only remaining Lomond wash still – a unique type of still that no longer has adjustable reflux plates. Scapa uses water from Lingro Burn, which travels through pipes to minimize contact with peat, achieving a smoother flavor without dominant smokiness.
This whisky is non-age-statement (NAS), meaning that the exact age is not specified. After distillation, it matures exclusively in first-fill American oak casks, which impart sweet notes of vanilla, honey, and creaminess.
Its flavor profile is very smooth, slightly tropical, and honeyed. On the nose, there are notes of honey, cream, apples, tropical fruits, anise, and subtle nuts. On the palate, the honey sweetness, pears, lemon zest, vanilla, gentle spices and hints of oak notes continue.
The finish is medium-length, sweet with a persistent oak note, sometimes with a hint of dried heather. It is a very gentle whisky – light, approachable, suitable even for those who prefer a softer style.
It can be served neat, or with a splash of water – which further enhances the creamy and vanilla notes.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 40% with a volume of 0.7 l and are delivered in gift cartons.
