Malted barley used in the Talisker distillery has been purchased from Glen Ord since 1972, when sugaring directly in the Talisker ceased. The malt has a peat level of 22ppm and the terroir is definitely brass. The Hebridean climate punishes the shores of the Isle of Skye, where Talisker is the only distillery.

Although this distillery is far from large - its capacity is rather modest at less than two million liters per year - Talisker has gained a reliable reputation and sales currently stand at 100,000 boxes per year. This may be due to its incorporation into the Classic Malts product range, launched in 1988. The Talisker Whiskey Distillery was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. Talisker is located on the west coast of Skye in Loch Harport. The area is full of traditions and local customs and is still spoken of Scottish Gaelic.

In 1898, the whiskey distillery became part of the Dailuaine-Talisker Distillers Company under the leadership of Thomas Mackenzie. After his death in 1916, this distillery was bought by a consortium with Distillers Company Limited. There are two boilers for washing and, which is bizarre, three for distillation. The third is still here and dates back to before 1928, when Talisker produced malt whiskey distilled three times.
