Deanston Virgin Oak is an atypical edition of Highland single malt whisky with no age statement (NAS), primarily produced in bourbon casks and then perfected in completely new American oak barrels (so-called virgin oak) for 9–12 months.
This combination gives the whisky distinct oak, spicy, and citrus notes, while maintaining the smoothness typical of Deanston.
The aroma features notes of fresh citrus leaves, honey-sweet barley, and a subtle hint of smoke. On the palate, initial flavors of caramel candies, creamy sweets, and oak elements emerge, accompanied by a gentle spicy trace.
The finish is medium-long, with spicy notes, a hint of oak and honey, where the oak presence is noticeable but does not disrupt the overall harmony of the whisky.
This whisky is best enjoyed neat, at room temperature, although a very gentle drop of water can help to subtly open up the citrus layers without overpowering the oak. It is suitable for slow sipping, ideal for those who appreciate a more pronounced oak influence but want to stay true to the Highland whisky style.
