Deanston Virgin Oak
Pronunciation: {Dín-stn}Deanston Virgin Oak is an unusual Highland single malt whisky without an age statement (NAS). It is first matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in brand-new American oak casks (so-called virgin oak) for 9–12 months.
This combination gives the whisky pronounced oaky, spicy and citrus notes, while still retaining the smoothness typical of Deanston.
On the nose, fresh citrus zest, honeyed malted barley and a subtle hint of smoke appear. The palate delivers flavours of toffee sweets, creamy confectionery and oak elements, accompanied by a gentle spicy touch.
The finish is medium-long, with spicy notes, hints of oak and honey, with the oak presence noticeable but never disturbing the overall harmony of the whisky.
This whisky is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, though a few drops of water can gently open up its citrus layers without letting the oak dominate. It is well suited for slow sipping, ideal for those who appreciate a more pronounced oak influence while still wanting to remain within the Highland whisky style.
