Balvenie Creation of a Classic, from The Balvenie Stories range, celebrates the innovative spirit of David C. Stewart, who pioneered the concept of finishing whisky in sherry casks in the early 1980s.
This Speyside single malt whisky first matures in American white oak casks, developing its core vanilla notes. It then gains its distinctive character through a finish in sweet Oloroso sherry casks. The release debuted in 2021 as a meaningful addition to The Balvenie’s storytelling series.
The nose is aromatic and lively, combining notes of vanilla, ginger, caramel, clove, and chai spice, all resting on an earthy malt backbone. On the palate, a perfectly balanced mix of oat syrup, brittle caramel, gentle spice, and dry oak emerges. The finish is long, with a pleasantly dry oak conclusion.
Creation of a Classic is highly approachable and, thanks to its smooth oak-driven profile, serves as an ideal introduction for bourbon enthusiasts exploring the world of Scotch whisky. It is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water, which help reveal layers of spice and ripe fruit.
Bottled at 43% ABV in a 0.7 l format and supplied in gift tubes.
