The Balvenie 12 Year Old Golden Cask is an exceptional single malt whisky that was created in the heart of Scottish Speyside, at the traditional family distillery The Balvenie in Dufftown.
This elegant edition features a unique double maturation process. First, it rests in American oak bourbon casks, which impart soft notes of vanilla and honey. It then undergoes final maturation in Caribbean rum casks, giving it depth of tropical fruit and a subtly spicy, exotic character. Originally intended exclusively for the travel retail market, it is now finding its way to a wider audience.
On the nose, it captivates with a harmonious blend of ripe tropical fruits, particularly banana, mango, and pineapple, alongside notes of caramel, sweet oak, and vanilla pod. The aroma is fresh, fruity, yet rounded and warm. The combination of bourbon and rum casks creates an aromatic profile full of depth and elegance that enchants from the very first sniff.
On the palate, it is gentle and smooth, with a pleasantly oily texture. The initial notes belong to sweet honey and creamy vanilla, which transition into layers of tropical fruit and caramel. Gradually, delicate spice and dry oak emerge, providing balance and nobility.
The finish is long, warm, and inviting, with echoes of coconut candy, spice, and a fruity trace that gradually fades. It is a complex yet approachable Speyside whisky. Ideal for lovers of sweeter, balanced profiles with a hint of exoticism.
