The Balvenie

Balvenie is located in Convals in Dufftown. The distillery was built by William Grant just below Glenfiddich in 1892 and shared its water source, Robbie Dhu Springs, with its famous neighbor. Despite the fact that they also had the same distillery, Balvenie is quite different in character. It is one of the few Scottish distilleries to boast its own malt houses using hand-chopped peat. These malting plants in Balvenie also supply neighboring Glenfiddich.

In the last few years, Balvenie has become the ninth best-selling single-species whiskey and demand is growing. Ever since the Balvenie distillery was first built, it is still owned by William Grant & Sons, who also own two neighboring distilleries, Speyside, Glenfiddich and Kininvie. It is an award-winning distillery, its two products from the basic product line, PortWood 21-year-old and DoubleWood, won gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge in 1998 and the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 1997.
