The Balvenie is a Scottish distillery that has specialized in producing single malt whisky for over a century. It is located in the Convals area of Dufftown, known as the heart of the Speyside region. The distillery was built by William Grant in 1892, just a stone's throw from the now-famous Glenfiddich distillery. Both distilleries even shared the same water source – the Robbie Dhu springs. And they even had the same distiller, yet Balvenie has developed a completely different style and unique character.

Whisky made the traditional way

Balvenie is one of the few Scottish distilleries that still maintains its own malting floors. Barley is malted right at the distillery and hand-cut peat is used. This traditional approach gives Balvenie whisky a delicate complexity and typical character. Interestingly, the malting floors of Balvenie also supply the neighboring Glenfiddich.

A family brand known worldwide

Since its inception, Balvenie has been part of the portfolio of the family company William Grant & Sons, which also owns other well-known distilleries in the Speyside region, such as Glenfiddich and Kininvie. In recent years, Balvenie has become one of the best-selling single malt whiskies, and interest in this brand continues to grow.

If we had to recommend two well-known whiskies from Balvenie, it would definitely be the Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old. It is popular for its balanced and smooth flavor, featuring notes of honey, vanilla, and dried fruit. The second is the Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old. It stands out with its unconventional aging in Caribbean rum casks, giving it a subtly sweet and exotic character.
