The Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak
The Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is an elegant single malt whisky from Scotland's Speyside region, combining traditional craftsmanship with an innovative approach to maturation.
This whisky was first matured for 16 years in American oak casks, which gave it classic notes of honey and vanilla. It was then finished in Pineau des Charentes casks, a fortified wine from the Charentes region of France, which is made by mixing fresh grape juice with young cognac and then maturing it. This innovative approach brings new layers of flavours and aromas to the whisky.
The nose is dominated by delicate floral notes of lotus and nutmeg, complemented by hints of fresh meadow grass and green apple peel. The palate reveals an energising combination of lemon zest and grapefruit, accompanied by the sweetness of glazed fruit and ginger root spice. The finish is refreshing and medium-long, with lingering notes of citrus and honeydew melon.
Balvenie is known for its emphasis on traditional whisky-making methods and its constant pursuit of innovation. The use of Pineau des Charentes casks is the first such experiment in the distillery's 130-year history. This edition is part of the Cask Finishes series, which Balvenie has been developing since 1983 under the guidance of malt master David C. Stewart MBE.
Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is the ideal choice for whisky lovers looking for a combination of traditional craftsmanship and new taste experiences.
