This exclusive edition of whisky Bunnahabhain 23 Year Old Triple Sherry was released for the Fèis Ìle 2024 festival as a limited bottle, with only 4,002 pieces produced. The distillate comes from 1999 and underwent a maturation process in several casks: first in ex-bourbon casks, then in 2009 transferred to sherry casks: Amontillado, in 2011 to Oloroso and finally in 2016 to Manzanilla.
Upon completion, the blend was carefully married and bottled by master blender Julieann Fernandez at cask strength 53.3% ABV without chill filtration or added coloring.
On the nose, notes of fresh marzipan, almond pastry, sweet forest fruits, rose petals, creamy fudge, and coconut emerge. Subtle aromas of vanilla, caramel, butter, strawberries and also hints of honeyed cashews, spicy wood, and delicate tobacco open up.
The palate is rich, balanced, with a dominance of caramel apple, nougat, exotic fruits, and a sandy, dry finish with hints of pine needles and blackcurrant.
This piece is ideal for slow, meditative enjoyment neat, at room temperature – ideally in an enamel glass with a round bottom or a nosing glass that allows for a unique capture of its complex character.
If you want to enhance the opening of the aromas, you can add just a few drops of water, which will reveal even more subtle smoky or spicy notes. This single malt pairs excellently with table black fruits, mandarin chocolate dessert, or as the highlight of a tasting of collectible editions.
