Benromach Contrasts: Virgin Oak 2013
This exclusive edition whisky, Benromach Virgin Oak 2013, is part of the Contrasts series, in which the Benromach distillery explores unconventional interpretations of its classic house style. Contrasts: Virgin Oak uses first-fill American virgin oak casks, which have been air-dried and then lightly charred before being filled.
Distillation took place in 2013, and the whisky matured for approximately 10 years in these fresh, unused casks.
On the nose, you can detect aromas of ripe banana, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and gentle vanilla caramel. The palate opens with a pronounced note of Seville orange peel, followed by rich butterscotch, smooth smoke, and delicate vanilla.
The finish is long and citrus-forward, with lingering matured oak and a soft wisp of smoke.
This expression offers a unique alternative: instead of the traditional use of ex-sherry or ex-bourbon casks, it focuses on pure, oak-intensive maturation – ideal for connoisseurs seeking a slightly different, yet highly refined Speyside single malt.
