The Deveron 12 Year Old
Pronunciation: {Deveron}The Deveron 12 Year Old is a Scottish single malt whisky from the Macduff distillery (Highlands), long known as Glen Deveron, which was renamed The Deveron in 2015. In the brand's portfolio, it represents a gently fruity, more accessible standard, ideal as an entry-level whisky into the world of single malts.
The Macduff distillery works with typical methods of Scottish single malt production - barley malt, water from local sources, and distillation in copper pot stills. After distillation, the whisky matures for 12 years in oak casks, primarily ex-bourbon and partially in ex-sherry casks, allowing for a balance between sweetness and a gentler complexity.
On the nose, The Deveron 12 opens with sweet baking spices, ginger, caramel, and apples in caramel. There are also notes of vanilla and gentle fruitiness (core fruits).
On the palate, butter, waxy malt, apple pie, and soft sweetness dominate. As the whisky “opens up,” chocolate notes and citrus peel emerge. The finish is medium-length, with woody spices, gentle oakiness, and a touch of vanilla.
It shines best neat, or with a hint of water, if you want to encourage the gentler notes. Due to its lighter, fruity character, it also suits a whisky highball or lighter cocktails. Pairing with an apple dessert, delicate cheesecake, or light cakes will highlight its fruity and caramel aspects.
