The Deveron 12 Year Old
Pronunciation: {Deveron}The Deveron 12 Year Old is a Scottish single malt whisky from the Macduff distillery (Highlands), long known as Glen Deveron, which was renamed The Deveron in 2015. In the brand's portfolio, it represents a delicately fruity, more accessible standard, ideal as an entry-level whisky into the world of single malts.
The Macduff distillery uses typical methods of Scottish single malt expression - barley malt, water from local sources and distillation in copper stills. After distillation, the whisky is aged for 12 years in oak casks, mainly ex-bourbon and partly ex-sherry casks, which allows it to achieve a balance between sweetness and a more delicate complexity.
The Deveron 12 opens with sweet baking spices, ginger, caramel and caramelised apples. There are also notes of vanilla and subtle fruitiness (stone fruit).
The flavour is dominated by butter, waxy malt, apple pie and soft malt. As the whisky ‘opens up’, chocolate notes and citrus peel also appear. The finish is medium-long, with woody spices, subtle oak and a touch of vanilla.
It is best enjoyed neat, or with a hint of water if you want to bring out the more delicate notes. Thanks to its lighter, fruity character, it is also suitable for whisky highballs or more delicate cocktails. Pairing it with apple desserts, delicate cheesecake or light cakes will highlight its fruity and caramel notes.
