Rodnik’s Black Absinthe is a dark, bold, and mysterious version of the classic absinthe, delivering a deeper and more intense experience. This absinthe originates from Spain, produced by the renowned Destilerías Rodnik’s in Tarragona – one of Europe’s oldest distilleries, crafting absinthe according to traditional recipes since the 19th century.
Its distinctive black color comes from natural botanical extracts, mainly liquorice root, which also adds a mildly sweet and earthy tone. The base consists of classic absinthe herbs – wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), anise, fennel, mint, and coriander, creating a balanced and complex profile.
On the nose, it reveals intense herbal notes of wormwood and anise, complemented by the sweetness of liquorice and a refreshing touch of mint. The taste is full-bodied, bittersweet, with a rich texture and pleasantly spicy undertones. The finish is long, warm, and aromatic, leaving lingering notes of herbs, spices, and liquorice.
Rodnik’s Black Absinthe is best enjoyed traditionally – with ice-cold water and sugar, in a ratio of 1 part absinthe to 3–5 parts water, creating the signature louche effect that gives the drink a smoother, creamy texture. It can also be served as part of extravagant cocktails, such as with tonic, citrus liqueur, or a twist of orange peel.
