Rodnik’s Black Absinthe is a dark, bold, and mystical version of classic absinthe that delivers a deeper and more intense experience. This absinthe comes from Spain, from the renowned Destilerías Rodnik’s in Tarragona – one of the oldest European distilleries, where absinthe has been produced according to traditional recipes since the 19th century.
Its unique black color comes from natural plant extracts, primarily from liquorice root, which also adds a subtly sweet, earthy note. The base consists of typical absinthe herbs – wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), anise, fennel, mint, and coriander, which together create a balanced and complex profile.
The aroma reveals intense herbal notes of wormwood and anise, complemented by a gentle sweetness of liquorice and freshness of mint. On the palate, it is full, bitter-sweet, with a rich texture and a pleasantly spicy undertone. The finish is long, warming, and aromatic, with a lingering trace of herbs, spices, and liquorice.
Rodnik’s Black Absinthe is best enjoyed the traditional way with ice-cold water and sugar, in a ratio of 1 part absinthe to 3–5 parts water, creating a louche effect and giving the drink a smoother, creamy texture. It can also be served as part of extravagant cocktails – for example, with tonic, citrus liqueur, or a pinch of orange peel.
