L'initial is the name that Clément gave to his first brut de colonne rum. As proudly stated on the label, this rum has an alcohol content of 71.4 %!
It is a very strong rum with a remarkably complex aroma of sugar cane, honey, spices, and thyme. Habitation Clément is located in the town of François, Martinique.
The rum distillery was founded by Homere Clément in 1887, when he purchased the estate at the height of the sugar crisis. At that time, Homere Clément was a well-liked member of the Martinique community and the mayor of Le François. He bought the prestigious sugar plantation known as Domaine de l'Acajou. This 43-hectare estate was considered one of the best sugar plantations on the island of Martinique.
