Since 1887, the production of Rhum Clément has been carried out according to the purest traditions and proven practices inherited by Homère and Charles Clément.
Homère Clément, a doctor and mayor of Le François, purchased the prestigious 43-hectare sugar plantation Domaine de L'Acajou and became a pioneer of Rhum Agricole, a modern style of pure rum made directly from fresh cane juice instead of traditional molasses rum. Homère Clément established a distillery to meet the high demand for alcohol during World War I in 1917.
After World War I, Charles Clément created the brand Acajou and began exporting rum to France. In 1940, the brand Clément was established and its promotion began. Rhum Clément was sold to the Hayot family, who remain close to the Clément family, to keep one of the truly great cultural treasures of Martinique, Habitation Clément, in Martinican hands. The Hayot family continues to uphold the heritage, culture, and passion of the Clément family.
