The amazing rum Zacapa Centenario 23 is a platinum medal winner and holds first place according to the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago with an incredible 97 points. It comes from Guatemala and is a blend of rums aged from 6 to 23 years. The rum is produced using the Solera system - meaning that various aged rums from barrels that previously aged sherry, port wine or cognac are blended together.
The entire production process and selection of barrels is overseen by Master Distiller Lorena Vásquez to capture specific flavors and textures as well as the perfect color. After distillation, it rests in American oak barrels at an altitude of 2438 meters above sea level, where the weather is cool. This results in much less evaporation during aging.
Unlike most rums that use molasses, Zacapa rum is made from first pressing virgin sugar cane. This makes the rum sweeter and smoother, and it is at this moment that the characteristic properties and flavor profile of the rum begin to develop.
Bottles are available in a volume of 0.7 l and come in an elaborate gift packaging that also includes two glasses.
