Tullamore Dew 18 Year Old
Single Malt Irish whiskey Tullamore Dew 18-year-old matures for 18 years, enriching its character with a finish in four different types of casks: ex-bourbon, Oloroso sherry, Port and Madeira. It is an exceptional achievement by Tullamore D.E.W., combining the smoothness of Irish single malt whiskeys with the depth of wine casks.
Founder Daniel E. Williams perfected this smooth whiskey to make it truly exceptional. The rich character and quality of this drink lies in its maturation and carefully selected wood. The 18-year-old single malt slowly matures in ex-bourbon oak casks and is then stored for 6 months in sherry, port, Madeira and oloroso casks.
The aroma reveals honey malt, baked apples, vanilla and a base of oak wood. There are also notes of dried fruit, such as plums and raisins, plus hints of chocolate and the famous fruit complexity from wine casks (sherry / Madeira / Port).
The taste is smooth, with centuries-old sweetness combined with spicy elements – a subtle hint of white pepper, perhaps even a touch of nutmeg; followed by baked apples, orange marmalade and nougat. Fruit comes through in the middle, and the wine casks add tannins and depth. There is enough alcohol to give the whisky weight, but it is not aggressive – the 46% ABV is well integrated.
We recommend serving it neat, at room temperature, in a Glencairn glass or a tulip whisky glass. A few drops of water can help open up the wine and fruit layers. It is excellent as a digestif or for special occasions – when you want to fully experience the taste of whisky.
