Tamdhu 21 Year Old Sherry Oak Casks
Tamdhu 21 Year Old Sherry Oak Casks is the oldest whisky in the Tamdhu distillery's core range. Distilled in Speyside and matured exclusively in ex-Oloroso sherry oak casks. After 21 years of maturation, the bottle offers a deep, elegant and complex profile, full of sweet and spicy contrasts, at 47,5 % ABV, without flavoring and unchilled filtration.
From the outset, Tamdhu has matured its whiskies exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks – mostly first and second fill, using both American and European oak. The casks are prepared in Jerez, Spain, with oak wood sourced from the US or Europe, and the sherry casks are apparently seasoned, not always ex-sherry, but the result is a strong sherry character.
The aroma contains subtle notes of sherry wood, chocolate, dried raisins (sultanas), toffee and warm cinnamon oat bread with hints of coffee and marzipan. On the palate, the whisky has a rich flavor profile with "Christmas cake" – candied orange peel, subtle oak, dry but sweet in balance with spice.
The finish is long and smooth, with undulating oak and a hint of spice leading to rich, syrupy fruit tones – sweet raisins and candied fruit, with no noticeable alcohol on the finish.
We recommend serving at room temperature (68 - 72°F) to allow the delicate aromas and complex structure of the whisky to fully develop. Pairs well with delicate desserts – high-quality 70 % chocolate, fig cookies, or almond cake complement the sherry notes perfectly. Also goes well with cheese – try it with hard blue cheese or aged Manchego.
