Tamdhu 21 Year Old Sherry Oak Casks is the oldest whisky in the core range of the Tamdhu distillery. Distilled in Speyside and matured exclusively in ex-Oloroso sherry oak casks. After 21 years of aging, the bottle offers a deep, elegant, and complex profile, full of sweet and spicy contrasts, at 47.5% ABV, without any additives and non-chill filtered.
From the beginning, Tamdhu has matured its whisky exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks – most often first and second fill, using both American and European oak. The casks are prepared in Jerez, Spain, with the oak wood sourced from the USA or Europe, and the sherry casks are likely seasoned, not always full of ex-sherry, but the result is a strong sherry character.
The aroma features delicate notes of sherry wood, chocolate, dried raisins (sultanas), toffee and warm cinnamon oat bread with hints of coffee and marzipan. On the palate, the whisky has a rich flavor profile with "Christmas cake" – candied orange peel, gentle oak, dry, yet sweet in balance with spice.
The finish is long and smooth, with undulating oak and a hint of spice leading to rich, syrupy fruit tones – sweet raisins and candied fruit, with no pronounced alcohol at the end.
We recommend serving at room temperature (18 - 22 °C), to fully develop the delicate aromas and complex structure of the whisky. It pairs well with light desserts – high-quality 70% chocolate, fig cookies, or almond cake will beautifully complement the sherry notes. It also goes well with cheese – try it with a hard blue cheese or aged manchego.
