Naga Rum

Naga Rum is a brand inspired by the mystical Asian guardian spirit ‘Naga’, a symbol of water, fertility and protection of treasures, often depicted as a snake or a young man – the name was chosen for its strong symbolism and ease of pronunciation in several languages.

The brand was created in 2012 by rum expert Sébastien Folloppe, who, after years of working for Bardinet and consulting for rum brands, discovered Asian rums at Vinexpo Hong Kong 2009 and decided to create his own project.

The brand debuted in Thailand in 2013, but after complications, it gained new momentum in 2016 with the relocation of production to Indonesia. In 2020, it returned to Thai production with a high-quality Thai rum line.

Current production takes place in northern Java, Indonesia, in local distilleries producing Batavia Arrack, a traditional Indonesian rum. The primary raw material is molasses, but the fermentation also includes a mixture of red rice yeast known as ‘Qu’.

Naga Rum wants to introduce Asian rums to Western audiences – authentic, unflavoured (no added aroma) and with a distinct terroir character.
