La Maison du Rhum Ile Maurice 2014/2022 Batch No.5
Limited La Maison du Rhum Ile Maurice 2014/2022 Batch No.5 is a rum made from pure sugarcane juice from Chamarel distillery, located in the southwest of a small island in the Indian Ocean.
This is a blend of rums distilled in 2014, 30% in pot stills and 70% in column stills. The rum benefited from aging in new French oak barrels, ex-cognac barrels, and red wine barrels, followed by maturation in ex-sherry Oloroso and single malt barrels.
Bottling took place in the second half of 2022, with a total of 8429 bottles produced worldwide.
On the nose, there is an immediate balance between a slightly honeyed flavor carried by the relatively high strength of the rum and the roundness of woodiness infused with sugarcane juice. It doesn't take long for the tannins of oak and wine from the barrels to make their presence known, which then quickly dissolve into a beautiful fruity jam.
Gradually, the palate reveals fresh resinous and minty, almost camphor-like notes. This is followed by fruit jam, which continues to gain concentration, occasionally evoking dried figs or prunes, with some spicy nuances. Next comes candied cane, jam, fruit, resinous nuances, which complete the confectionery character of the rum.
The finish is lightly spicy and wood continues its journey with elegant pastry.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 55% with a volume of 0.7 l. The bottles feature a colorful design and labels along with a gift tube in colonial style.
