Kilchoman Small Batch Release

The excellent whisky Kilchoman Small Batch Release is a limited edition that uses the finest available casks for maturation. This exclusive small batch edition includes some whisky aged in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and STR casks.

STR casks are an innovation not found in many distilleries, created by the late Jim Swan. This abbreviation stands for "shaved, toasted and recharred."

Each cask previously held red wine, and to tame some of the overpowering flavors of the red wine, the casks are shaved on the inside to reveal the active wood. This is then toasted to break down harder oak elements such as cellulose. The cask is then charred to create an active char layer that enhances interaction with the aging distillate.

Bottles are filled at an alcohol content of 48.7% and no chill filtration or coloring was used in the production. The whisky comes in a gift box.
