Bushmills Three Woods 16 Year Old
16-year-old Irish Single Malt whiskey Bushmills Three Woods matures in 3 different types of barrels. It matures in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry Oloroso and finally in ex-port barrels. As a result, each barrel gives this whiskey fruit, oak and sherry tones in taste and aroma.
The distillery is based in Northern Ireland. It is the oldest licensed whiskey producer in the world. It obtained a distillation license in 1608.
The aroma reveals a mix of sweetness and fruit: marzipan, vanilla, honey, dried fruit such as plums and cherries, sometimes fruit compote or candied orange peel, all supported by subtle oak and hints of spice (e.g. black pepper) from the sherry and port finish.
The taste is full, velvety with a layered profile: the introduction brings honey and marzipan combined with sweet fruit, the middle of the taste is enriched with tones of port fruit (sour cherry, berries), followed by woody tones of oak and sweet sherry. The overall impression is harmonious, with a medium to long finish that combines sweet, drier and fruity elements.
We recommend serving it neat at room temperature in a tulip or Glencairn glass to allow the aroma to fully develop. A little water can help to open up the deeper layers of sweet fruit and spice. An excellent choice as a digestif after a meal or as a special moment to enjoy on its own.
