Balvenie 12 Year Old Montilla Wine Seasoned Cask

The Balvenie 12 Year Old Montilla Wine Seasoned Cask is an exclusive single malt Scotch whisky from The Balvenie Distillery, exploring the influence of maturation in casks seasoned with traditional sweet wine from the Montilla-Moriles region of Spain. This fortified wine – similar to Pedro Ximénez sherry but with its own distinct terroir – imparts pronounced sweetness, raisin depth and an elegant wine character to the whisky.

The whisky was first matured in classic American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which provide the typical Balvenie honey-vanilla foundation. It was then transferred into specially prepared Montilla Wine Seasoned Casks, where it developed its intense fruity layers.

On the nose, it offers notes of honey, raisins, vanilla, almonds, gentle spice and fresh-cut oak.

The palate is full and smooth – sweet Montilla wine, creamy honey, raisins, citrus zest, nuts, subtle cinnamon and soft oak spice.

The finish is long and harmonious, with tones of dried fruit, wine richness, honey and delicate spice.
