Angostura 1824 is a premium blend of Trinidad rum from the House of Angostura – a company with a strong distillation tradition since 1945, part of the Campari Distiller - The Liquor Expert group. Its name refers to the year 1824, when doctor Johann Siegert developed the legendary Angostura bitters, the predecessor of today's company.
The rum is carefully composed of at least 12-year-old distillates that have aged in American bourbon barrels. After blending, the rum is bottled and filled at a strength of 40% ABV.
The production process begins with fermentation of molasses for 48 – 72 hours, followed by continuous distillation in column systems directly at the distillery in Trinidad. Aging takes place in a tropical climate for at least 12 years, resulting in the rum acquiring complex tones and a characteristic dark bronze-amber hue.
In the aroma, you will find molasses, vanilla, honey, spices, dried fruit, cocoa and hints of tropical fruit and citrus peel.
On the palate, the rum has a medium to full body with notes of chocolate, orange juice, coffee, nuts, and honey, which are well-rounded and harmonious. The finish is long, smooth, with a gentle sweetness, chocolate, and spicy aftertaste.
Rum 1824 is the flagship of Angostura – the official "flagship rum," more affordable than limited editions like 1787 or 1919. The master blender personally selects the barrels for the blend to achieve refined complexity.
