Angostura 1824 is a premium blend of Trinidad rum from the House of Angostura, a company with a strong tradition of distillation since 1945 and part of the Campari Distiller - The Liquor Expert group. Its name refers to the year 1824, when physician Johann Siegert developed the legendary Angostura bitters, the predecessor of today's company.
The rum is carefully blended from distillates aged for at least 12 years in American bourbon barrels. After blending, the rum is bottled again at 40 % ABV.
The production process begins with the fermentation of molasses for 48 - 72 hours, followed by continuous distillation in column stills directly at the distillery in Trinidad. Maturation takes place in a tropical climate for at least 12 years, giving the rum complex tones and a characteristic dark bronze-amber color.
The aroma features molasses, vanilla, honey, spice, dried fruit, cocoa and hints of tropical fruit and citrus peel.
The rum has a medium to full body with notes of chocolate, orange juice, coffee, nuts, and honey, which are well rounded and harmonious. The finish is long, smooth, with a delicate sweetness and a chocolate and spicy aftertaste.
Rum 1824 is the flagship rum of Angostura – the official "flagship rum," more affordable than limited editions such as 1787 or 1919. The master blender personally selects the barrels for the blend to achieve a refined complexity.
