Angostura 7 Year Old rum comes from Trinidad & Tobago and is produced by Angostura Ltd, a company known not only for its aromatic bitters but also for its extensive portfolio of Caribbean rums.
This dark blend of medium intensity is a mixture of light, medium and strong rums that have been aged for at least 7 years in charred ex-bourbon oak barrels, giving it its characteristic mahogany color and complex flavor profile.
Production begins with the fermentation of molasses and subsequent distillation in modern continuous (column) distillation systems at the Trinidad Distillers Ltd plant, which is owned by Angostura and is the last place where rum is distilled in the country.
After blending, the rum is left to mature further – the master blender returns the mixture to the barrels to allow the flavors to harmonize – the so-called "marry in cask" process. The final product has 40 % ABV, with no additional sweeteners or added sugar (less than 3 g/l).
The aroma is dominated by notes of dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, molasses, espresso, roasted nuts and spices, with a subtle hint of oak and spice.
The rum is medium-bodied to rich on the palate, with notes of caramel, honey, roasted nuts, coffee, and a hint of cinnamon. The finish is medium-long, drier, dominated by cocoa, cinnamon, wood, and a subtle citrus-spicy aftertaste.
