Rum Angostura 5 Year Old comes from Trinidad & Tobago and is produced by Angostura Ltd – the largest rum producer in the country, which is also a well-known maker of its iconic bitters.
It is a blend of light and medium-bodied rums, distilled in continuous columns, which then age for a minimum of 5 years in charred barrels previously used for Cork & Mash bourbon whiskey.
After aging, the rum is filtered through activated charcoal and blended to achieve a smooth golden hue. The result is a balanced, medium-bodied rum with pleasant flavor nuances.
The aroma is dominated by a combination of coconut wood, caramel, vanilla, lemon peel, and subtle notes of chocolate and spice. On the palate, the rum is smooth and fruity – with hints of tropical fruit, green mango, and banana nuances. The finish is relatively short, with a lightly spicy conclusion and a sweet caramel aftertaste.
The blend has versatile uses – it is ideal for mixing cocktails (e.g., Mai Tai, Mojito), but it also tastes great neat or on the rocks.
