Old St. Croix XO Reserve 1888 Copenhagen Medal is a modern tribute to the blend that won a medal at the Great Northern Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1888. This award was a significant moment for the family of pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise and remains part of the story of this edition to this day.
The product follows the well-known A.H. Riise XO 1888 Copenhagen, which continues under the historic name Old St. Croix after the brand's rebranding. It is not a completely new concept, but rather a continuation of the original tradition in a new visual identity. The Old St. Croix brand refers to the name that A.H. Riise used in the 19th century when selling his spirits from the West Indies.
The base of the blend consists of extra aged, double-distilled components sourced from renowned distilleries in the West Indies and Central America. They then mature in oak barrels that previously contained sweet dessert wines. These barrels impart greater depth, subtle sweetness, and a rich fruity-spicy character to the final profile.
The aroma reveals soft oak, old leather, and dried apricots. The taste is warm and layered, with notes of spice, Christmas cake, orange peel, and a gentle hint of wine candies. The finish brings dried fruit, old oak, and an elegant trace of sherry.
Old St. Croix XO 1888 Copenhagen Medal is ideal for slow sipping neat at room temperature or with one large ice cube. Due to its sweeter and aromatic style, it is also suitable for those who are just starting with aged spirit drinks.
