Metaxa 5* is a Greek brandy that boasts an unmatched sweet flavor. It is often recognized by experts and the public as a distinct and unique category among aged spirits.
The Metaxa brand was founded in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa. The brandy is produced by blending grape distillate with grapes from Attica. For the production of Metaxa, sun-dried wine grapes of three varieties are used, which are distilled and aged for 5 years in oak barrels. The number of aging years is indicated on the bottles by the number of stars.
After the aging process is complete, the distillate is blended with vintage muscat wines and a secret mix of Greek herbs. Finally, this blend is allowed to age for another six months. This production process sets it apart from the methods used in brandy production.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 38% with a volume of 0.7 l.
