Hampden 8 Year Old Magnum Series #3
Hampden 8 Year Old Magnum Series #3 is an exceptional Jamaican dark rum from Hampden Estate distillery, introduced in the artistic Magnum Series collection (edition #3) in collaboration with Italian distributor Velier and photographer Cristina de Middel. Distilled in 2017, it aged for 8 years in the tropical climate of Jamaica and was bottled at an alcohol content of 60 %.
The rum is made from molasses in copper pot stills at Hampden Estate distillery, with fermentation occurring naturally – without industrial yeasts, only using wild microorganisms and dunder (residues from previous fermentation). It then aged 8 years in the tropical climate of Jamaica, which significantly accelerates the aging process and shapes the rum's distinctive character.
The aroma reveals rich notes of ripe fruit – such as dried raisins, figs, apple, orange peel – combined with subtle hints of oak, almonds, and molasses.
The taste is harmonious and full: sweet and fruity elements (caramelized fruit, honey), followed by spicy accents (ginger), vanilla, and a delicate tea or herbal undertone. The finish is long, elegant, with echoes of dried fruit, oak wood, and the typical ester character of Hampden.
This rum represents a very mature and complex expression of Jamaican rum in a unique edition. It is intended for discerning connoisseurs who appreciate the intensity, depth, and authenticity of Hampden distillery. Best enjoyed neat, in a tasting glass at room temperature.
