Hampden 7 Year Old Magnum Series #3 is a Jamaican dark rum from the legendary Hampden Estate distillery, created in collaboration with the Italian company Velier as part of the exclusive Magnum Series, which unites the worlds of rum and photography.
Distilled in 2018, it matured for seven years in Jamaica’s tropical climate and was bottled at a robust 60 % ABV.
It is made from molasses in traditional copper pot stills, with fermentation taking place naturally – without industrial yeast, relying instead on wild microorganisms and dunder (residues from previous fermentations).
This process gives the rum its authentic, “funky” Jamaican character full of energy and depth. Thanks to tropical aging, the rum develops a rich structure and intense aroma.
It has a golden amber color. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet of tropical fruits – pineapple, banana, pear, and apple – complemented by notes of honey, vanilla, herbs, and resin, with subtle undertones of coffee and cocoa emerging over time.
The palate is full-bodied and oily, combining sweet flavors of caramelized fruit, honey, and vanilla with spicy accents of ginger and clove, while gentle smoky and mineral nuances appear in the background. The finish is long, warm, and harmonious, leaving traces of dried fruit, oak, vanilla, and Hampden’s signature ester character.
This is a full-bodied rum with medium to higher sweetness, rich fruitiness, and delicate spice and smoke tones. Best enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped tasting glass at room temperature, it is an impressive and elegant rum that perfectly balances strength, character, and the unmistakable wild spirit of Jamaica.
