Clonakilty Double Oak
Clonakilty Double Oak is a premium Irish whiskey from the coastal Clonakilty Distillery located in County Cork in southern Ireland. The distillery is known for the Scully family’s farming tradition and the use of locally grown barley.
Thanks to its location near the Atlantic Ocean, the whiskey matures in unique conditions where the maritime climate influences the character of the casks and the final flavour profile. This edition is called Double Oak because it matures in two types of oak casks, which give it a complex structure and harmonious character.
Clonakilty Double Oak first matures in traditional ex-bourbon casks, which provide delicate vanilla and caramel notes. It is then finished in American virgin oak casks and in charred European oak casks that previously held red wine, adding deeper woody character, spice, and a fuller body.
On the nose, notes of vanilla, caramel, honey, and gentle spice appear. The taste is smooth and rich, with hints of ripe fruit, malted barley, and oak. Gradually, subtle notes of spice, caramel, and sweetness develop, creating an elegant and balanced flavour profile. Thanks to its complexity and accessibility, Clonakilty Double Oak is suitable both for experienced whiskey lovers and for those discovering the world of Irish whiskey.
The finish is pleasantly long, gently spicy and sweet with a touch of oak. Clonakilty Double Oak is best enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to reveal its aromatic layers. Lovers of quality whiskey will appreciate it similarly to other products in the Irish whiskey category.
