Clonakilty Galley Head
Clonakilty Galley Head is a premium Irish whiskey produced at the Clonakilty Distillery, located on the southern coast of Ireland in County Cork. It is inspired by the iconic Galley Head lighthouse, which stands on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean overlooking the local coastline. This location also plays an important role in the maturation process, as the oceanic climate influences the character of the casks and the final flavour profile.
The Single Pot Still Irish whiskey in this blend is made from barley grown on the distillery's family farm. It matures at the Clonakilty distillery, where it is then blended with Irish grain whiskey before bottling.
The aroma features notes of raspberries and baked green apples, complemented by a taste of raisins with a hint of ginger spice and subtle notes of elderberry in the finish. This whiskey is an Irish Whiskey – Bourbon Cask Matured, a blend of Single Pot Still and Irish Grain whiskey, matured in ex-bourbon casks. The master distiller and blender is Brian Nation.
The finish is pleasantly soft and fresh with lingering sweetness and light spicy notes. It is best enjoyed neat, with a drop of water, or as part of simple whiskey cocktails. Lovers of Irish whiskey will appreciate it similarly to other products in the Irish whiskey category.
