Carlos I. is a traditional Spanish brandy produced in the Jerez de la Frontera region, known as one of the most prestigious centers for brandy production. This drink is created using the unique Criaderas y Solera system, where younger distillates are blended with older aging mixtures, achieving its complexity and smoothness.
The origins of brandy date back to the 7th century, when Arabs settled in Jerez and distilled wine to obtain alcohol for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. By the 16th century, winemakers and their acquaintances in the Jerez area were drinking aged grape distillate, but it wasn't until the mid-19th century that it began to be commercially sold in significant quantities.
The history of Carlos I. goes back to 1889, when a certain cellar master found several very old barrels of brandy in the corner of his cellar. No one knew where they came from or how long they had been there. However, when he tasted their contents, he discovered that the rare liquid had "an exceptional taste capable of conquering the world."
