Add a tasting glass and elevate your experience to the next level!
Boann PX Single Pot Still originally matured in ex-sherry Oloroso casks Hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey's in Jerez da la Frontera, Spain. These 250-liter oak barrels made from American oak (Quercus Alba) were selected together with George Espie (RIP ex Master of Wood from The Macallan) and Venturo Nunez from the renowned Vasyma Cooperage in Jerez.
These casks were filled with a blended mash distillate of Single Pot Still, which contained malted barley, unmalted barley, oats, and rye. All these grains come from Ireland and are locally grown. The distillery then acquired the most amazing PX casks. These PX Butts with a volume of 500 liters and more were discovered by a partner cooperage in Andalusia, R.L. Rodriguez, and originate from the Mediterranean climate of Malaga.
They have been in the vintage system PX Solera for over 60 years and were extremely dense. Part of these casks is made exclusively from chestnut, which is a very rare wood variety for aging whiskey in Ireland. In Scotland, spirits can only mature in oak casks. In these rare historical PX Solera casks, great Oloroso Sherry was then finished, where the whiskey subsequently matured.
By aligning the aging in Oloroso Sherry casks with rich Spanish PX Butts, something truly exceptional and decadent was created. The label design of this expression speaks of the wood and the grain of the cask.
The aroma of the whiskey is decadent, full of raisins and figs, beautifully supported by molasses, sweet caramel, and a hint of leather. The taste is sweet and full of spicy notes with a wonderful blend of honey syrup, delicate bitter chocolate, crispy bacon, and white pepper. The finish is long and rich, with an earthy caramel flavor that lingers long after the last sip. Fruit bomb PX!
